Teddy Bear Bread ~ Honey Wheat

A FUN and UNIQUE Bread that is PERFECT for families with young children, holiday dinners, even as a hostess gift to take to their home for dinner or for office parties! You could even slice this bread in half length wise, and make a HUGE sandwich out of him and serve him in that fashion. It is adorable and definitely a bread that will impress your family and friends. Remember to tie a pretty bow around his neck if you want to finish him off!

Ingredients
  1. 5 cups bread flour
  2. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  3. 1 tbs kosher salt
  4. 2 tsp instant dry yeast
  5. 2 cups warm water (100 degrees F.)
  6. 2 tbs honey
  7. 8 raisins
  8. 1 large egg
  9. 1 T cold water
Instructions
  1. I add water and yeast to my kitchenaid mixing bowl.
  2. add flours, salt and honey.
  3. mix until well blended then set a timer and knead dough for 5 min.
  4. place in an oiled bowl and rise for 1 hour.
  5. punch dough down gently.
  6. divide into 7 balls..... 1 large, 1 med, 6 small and 1 extra small.
  7. roll balls and place on a sprayed cookie sheet.... large ball is his body, med is his head, 6 small are his ears, hands and feet and extra small is his snout.
  8. egg wash him and allow him to rise a 2nd rise 90 min.
  9. egg wash him a 2nd time.
  10. add raisins for his ears, eyes, nose and buttons.
  11. bake 350 for 25-30 min until golden brown and when thumped sounds hallow.
  12. ENJOY!
Notes
  1. You can definitely substitute the Whole Wheat Flour for Rye Flour OR Leave it as a White Flour recipe. Mix and match. Play around with it. You could even make this bread into a cinnamon orange bread OR a herb savory bread. The sky is the limit!

Basic White Bread Recipe

 Basic white bread recipe:
3/4 cup warm water
1 pkg yeast (2tsp)
1 tsp salt
1 tbs sugar
1 tbs shortening or butter
1/2 cup warm water + 2 tbs milk powder or 1/2 cup warm milk
3 cups flour (approx)

In medium bowl mix yeast sugar and warm water. Allow to proof. (Wait 5 minutes if using traditional yeast or just mix if using instant)
Add salt veg oil and warm milk.
Stir
Add 2 cups of water. Dough should be quite sticky. Stir until well mixed.
Now add flour 1/4 cup at time and stir until to stiff to stir.
Turn out onto floured board or counter.
Knead. Need until no longer sticky and dough is smooth.
Place in oiled bowl and cover with tea towel.
Rise 1 hour.
Push down and shape into loaf shape.
Oil bread pan and place dough into bread pan.
Oil top very lightly to prevent drying out.
COver with plastic wrap.
Let rise 30 minutes.
Bake at 375 for 40-45 minutes until medium brown.
Turn bread out and wrap in tea towel until cool.
