A simple and delicious pear butter recipe that is the perfect spread on anything! Toast, bagels and cream cheese, crackers..... even spread a thin layer between 2 layers of vanilla cake!

Ingredients
  1. 7-8 pounds pears, peeled, cored & halved
  2. 1/2 cup lemon juice
  3. 4 cups granulated sugar
  4. 1/4 cup ground cinnamon
  5. 1 tsp-1 tbs ground nutmeg (adjust to your liking)
Instructions
  1. Peel, core and slice up pears.
  2. Place them into a crock pot or slow cooker.
  3. Set on LOW.
  4. Add cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. Allow to cook on low for 6-7 hours.
  6. Mash fruit with hand masher or cordless immersion blender. If you like it chunky, use the hand potato masher like I did.
  7. Add sugar.
  8. Allow to cook down and thicken, another 6-7 hours.
  9. Fill clean and sterile mason half pint jars.
  10. Process in a water bath canner 15 minutes OR you may jar this up and keep it in your fridge (if you do not can) and it will stay good for up to 3 months.

Homemade Vanilla Sugar

Simple and easy to do! 

5 Vanilla Beans (slice in half)

Sugar

1 Jar (I used a Mason Jar)

 

Just layer the sliced vanilla beans in between the sugar as you fill your jar. Let sit. The longer it sits, the stronger the vailla taste. This can be used in recipes, on top of muffins, doughnuts, used in your coffee or tea. Anywhere you would use sugar. 😀

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. 1/3 cup white sugar
  4. 1/2 cup butter, softened
  5. 2 eggs
  6. 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  7. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  8. 2 tsp baking powder
  9. 1/3 cup milk
  10. 2-3 apples (2 large or 3 small) peeled and chopped into bite-sized pieces
  11. 1 tbs melted butter
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. COMBINE IN A SMALL BOWL: 1/3 of the brown sugar (packed) and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Mix well.
  3. MIX IN MIXING BOWL (I used my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer): remaining 2/3 brown sugar and white sugar and cream it together with the 1/2 cup softened butter until fluffy and light.
  4. ADD: Both eggs (1 at a time)
  5. ADD: vanilla
  6. ADD: flour and baking powder
  7. ADD: milk
  8. Beat together well, but do NOT over mix.
  9. POUR: half the mixture into a well greased and floured bread loaf pan.
  10. ADD: half the amount of chopped apples and lightly place them on the top of batter.
  11. SPRINKLE: half of the brown sugar and cinnamon crumble on top of apples.
  12. MIX: Now, dump the rest of your chopped apples into the remaining batter and fold apples in until well coated.
  13. ADD: add the remaining apple batter on top.
  14. ADD: top he batter with the remaining brown sugar/cinnamon crumble.
  15. BAKE: 40 minutes.
  16. TOP: brush 1 tbs of melted butter on top of the bread using a pastry brush and then let it bake in the oven for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
  17. REMOVE read from oven. Allow it to cool 10-15 minutes before removing from bread loaf pan.
  18. ENJOY!

Homemade Brown Sugar

Homemade brown sugar:
8 cups white sugar
1 cup molasses

Mix by hand with a whisk, with hand mixer or by stand mixer if large enough.
Store in airtight container.
Place a brown sugar keeper or piece of bread in container to keep moist.
