HI Guys!!!!!

WOOHOO! Today is finally the day I open my blog and share it with all of you!  I have been so excited yet so extremely nervous all day.  I chose to launch my blog on a very special day….. my Dad’s 64th Birthday.  Now two amazing things were born on July 18th.  This blog has been a complete labor of love for me….. it is something I never thought in a million years I could do.  I hope you can easily find what you need here, and if you have any questions or requests just shoot me a quick message and let me know!  This really is my homage to those who taught me so much. The only way I could possibly pay any of them back, is to pay it forward and teach  others what has been taught to me. I hope all of you enjoy partaking in my Homesteading Journey…..

  10. Do you like bread pudding? I have a recipe for you if you do.

      • The recipe is simple, but there’s a little technique involved.

        2 cups dried bread cubes
        4 cups milk, scalded
        2 eggs
        1/2 cup sugar
        1/4 teaspoon salt
        1/4-1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
        1 teaspoon vanilla
        1/2 cup raisins, optional
        First, bring the 4 cups milk to a boil, remove from heat and cool. It can still be warm when you use it as long as it’s cool enough that it doesn’t cook the eggs when you add it, 110 degrees or less is fine. While the milk is cooling, prepare the bread. Cut
        bread into 1/2-3/4 inch cubes, about 2 1/2 cups (it’ll shrink some as it dries) spread on a dry baking sheet and dry in a 250 degree oven, tossing the cubes occasionally, until very dry and lightly browned. Heavier breads work best and it must be oven dried, just letting it go stale on the counter won’t cut it. Put dry ingredients in a 2 1/2 quart oven safe mixing bowl, add vanilla and eggs and beat until sugar is dissolved and you have a little foam, add cooled milk and stir, then add raisins and bread and stir again. Place a pan big enough to come half way up the sides of the mixing bowl in a 350 degree oven, I use a 10x10x3in deep casserole dish, set the bowl in the pan and fill pan with boiling water. Bake at 350 for 1 hour 15 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm or cold.
        For chocolate bread pudding (Great warm with a little bourbon sauce) melt 2 ounces of chocolate and stir into milk/egg mixture right before adding bread.

        • oh FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! I MUST try this! my mom used to make…. rice pudding to. Do you have a recipe you love for that? SInce she isn’t with me anymore, I can’t ask her….. I wish I had written these things down while she was alive. 🙁

          • As a matter of fact I do

            1/4 cup rice
            4 cups scalded milk
            1/4 cup sugar
            1/2 teaspoon salt
            1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
            1/2 cup raisins

            Rinse the rice and stir everything together in a 2 1/2 quart baking dish. Bake for 2-2 1/4 hours in a 325 degree oven, stirring five or six times while baking. The mixture shouldn’t boil while baking, stir it down if it does. Serve hot or cold.
            WARNING: It’s been a long time since I made this and for the life of me I can’t remember if the rice should be cooked or uncooked and the recipe doesn’t say. I’m fairly sure uncooked and judging by the amount of rice called for I’d say that’s true, but if you end up with crunchy rice after two hours you’ll know I was wrong. 🙂

    • I won’t even lie, it IS hard! hahaha this has been a challenge! I am NOT a techie person. Luckily I had someone to lean on, and I read. A LOT! And, I watched a lot of tutorials. There are some great ones on you tube. If you are doing a blog using wordpress.org, and need a good guy to watch, let me know. I will give you his you tube channel! I learned a ton!
